This course introduces the foundations and principles of occupational therapy practice with children with developmental delays and disabilities, emphasizing the impact of motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, social, and emotional factors on occupational performance and participation. It addresses common developmental conditions and their effects on activities of daily living, play, learning, education, and family and social participation. The course introduces principles of assessment and occupational performance analysis, identification of child and family needs, child- and family-centered goal setting, and selection of occupation-, activity-, play-, and evidence-informed interventions. Emphasis is placed on promoting independence and participation within the child’s natural environments while considering personal and environmental factors and collaboration with families and interdisciplinary teams. |
