This course introduces the foundations and principles of occupational therapy practice in mental health, with emphasis on the impact of mental health conditions and psychosocial and environmental factors on occupational performance and participation in life roles and activities. It addresses common mental health conditions and their influence on activities of daily living, habits and routines, education, work, leisure, and social participation. The course introduces occupational therapy assessment, therapeutic relationships and communication, activity and occupational performance analysis, person-centered goal setting, and the use of activity and occupation in individual and group interventions. Emphasis is placed on recovery-oriented practice, development of skills, habits, and routines that support health and independence, clinical reasoning, evidence-informed practice, ethics and safety, and interdisciplinary mental health care. |
