This course advances occupational therapy practice with individuals with physical disabilities, with emphasis on complex neurological and physical conditions and their impact on occupational performance and participation across the continuum of care and rehabilitation. It addresses assessment and intervention for motor, sensory, perceptual, and cognitive problems associated with neurological and physical conditions, as well as strategies to promote independence in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, mobility, and home and community participation. Topics include assistive technology, environmental modification, seating and positioning systems, wheelchair-related considerations, community and vocational rehabilitation, and return to meaningful roles and occupations. Emphasis is placed on integrated person-centered intervention planning, advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-informed practice, outcome measurement, and collaborative rehabilitation practice. |
