This practical course provides applied learning experiences related to the fundamental concepts and theories of developmental psychology across the lifespan. Students develop skills in systematic observation and analysis of cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral development and in identifying developmental characteristics and tasks in relation to expected patterns at different life stages. Practical activities and case studies are used to examine the influence of family, environmental, cultural, and life-experience factors on development and behavior and to understand individual differences and changes associated with life transitions. Emphasis is placed on developing observation, communication, and case-analysis skills and relating developmental knowledge to behavior, learning, relationships, independence, performance, and participation in activities and life roles, providing a foundation for subsequent applications in occupational therapy and rehabilitation. |
