This practical course provides hands-on application of foundational occupational therapy assessment and intervention skills for individuals with physical disabilities. Students practice functional assessment and analysis of activities and activities of daily living performance; assessment of range of motion, strength, sensation, and factors affecting upper-extremity function; and selection and application of appropriate outcome measures. Students also practice activities of daily living training, positioning, transfers and functional mobility, joint protection and energy conservation, activity and environmental modification, and selection and use of basic adaptive equipment and assistive technologies. Practical experiences emphasize goal setting, intervention planning, safe client handling, documentation, outcome measurement, and clinical reasoning across a range of physical conditions and occupational performance problems. |
