Course Discription
:
*General principles of spectroscopy are introduced. Different spectroscopic methods which are used for structure determination of organic compounds are described. These methods include ultraviolet (UV) and visible spectroscopy, infra-red (IR) spectroscopy, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS). Combination of the information obtained using the different methods is given to teach students how spectroscopic methods are used to solve complex structural problems and investigating bonding features in organic molecules.
