About us

The Language Center at the Hashemite University was established at the beginning of the academic year 2005-2006 to meet the needs of students, different faculties, and the local community. The Center offers teaching different modern languages through intensive short courses and in-depth programs. Besides language teaching, it promotes openness, cultural awareness, and excellence in language teaching and learning.
 
The Center enjoys strong links with the Departments of Arabic and English at the Hashemite University, and it has distinguished relationships with the cultural attaches in the American, British, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Italian embassies. The Center employs expert lecturers who use modern teaching methods and up-to-date resources to teach modern languages and spread openness and cultural awareness. Each semester, the Center helps thousands of national and international students to improve their language skills. It also serves the local community and University staff by giving intensive English courses and translating literature and documents from English to Arabic and vice versa.   
 
Mission 
The establishment of the Language Center is in line with the royal visions and aspirations to upgrade the level of learning and teaching international languages. It also comes to contribute to the overall national development process, to achieve the University’s educational and cultural mission, to meet the demands of different faculties, to serve the local and global communities, to keep up with the latest language teaching methods and technologies, and to assure more openness and cultural and civilizational communications.
 
Vision
Since language learning opens a world of opportunities and possibilities, the Language Center looks to become a pioneer in providing excellent language courses and offering a variety of services in the field of language learning, language teaching, and communication.
 
Goals and Responsibilitis
1- Administering Arabic and English placements test for new students on campus .
2- Teaching Mandatory Arabic and English Language Courses.
3- Teaching  Arabic to non_native  speakers .
4- Teaching  Foreign Language  (Spanish and  French ) for tourism students.
5- Teaching  TOEFL preparation course for graduated students .
6- Offering remedial language courses.
7- Providing language consultations at national and international level.
8- Organizing different cultural activities .
9 -Offering language consultations and academic experts to the Center for studies and  consultation .  
10-Guiding students to make use of scholarship chances offered by international institutions.
11- Teaching foreign language (Italian, japanese)
 
Future Expectation
1- Designing new courses for non_ native speakers of Arabic via_media Arabic and Business Arabic in collaboration with the faculity of Economics .
2- Middle  Eastern Studies program  in collaboration with American and European Partners.
3- A semester and a year  _ long Arabic program for speakers of other  language .
4- In corporating e_learning within the Center Courses.
5- Teaching new European Language such as German , and Asian Languages such as Chinese.
6- Exchange of expertise with local , regional and international language conters.
7- Strengthening collaborative links with different cultural attaches and different Jordanian institions whether state publish .
8- Widening the scope of students exchange with different international universities.
