The University of Jordan hosted a national-level specialized training workshop as part of the Erasmus+-funded project CaP4Preceptors, aimed at strengthening the quality of clinical education for medical students across Jordan. The initiative focuses on enhancing the competencies of clinical supervisors and improving hands-on medical training environments.

The event brought together a wide range of healthcare professionals and academic representatives, including participants from Ministry of Health hospitals, the Royal Medical Services, King Hussein Cancer Center, and several Jordanian medical schools. This diverse participation reflects a growing effort to align clinical training practices across the country.

Opening the workshop, Dr. Yasser Al-Rayan, Dean of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan, highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between universities and healthcare institutions. He noted that unifying clinical training approaches across different hospitals will contribute to raising both educational standards and the quality of patient care nationwide.

The two-day workshop featured interactive sessions led by experts from Jordan and Europe, particularly Portugal, focusing on practical aspects of clinical supervision. Key topics included effective communication with patients, modern student assessment techniques, and strategies for supervising trainees in high-pressure clinical environments. Additionally, participants explored emerging trends such as the integration of artificial intelligence into medical education.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Salaymeh, project coordinator at the University of Jordan, explained that the project seeks to transform clinical training by creating a structured and supportive learning environment. He emphasized the importance of equipping clinical supervisors not only with technical expertise but also with educational skills that enhance the learning experience for medical students.

The CaP4Preceptors project is implemented through a collaborative consortium led by the Hashemite University, bringing together several Jordanian universities alongside the Ministry of Health, in partnership with European institutions including the University of Patras (Greece) and the University of Minho (Portugal).

A central component of the project is the Training of Trainers (ToT) approach, which aims to build a sustainable network of qualified clinical educators. By strengthening the capabilities of supervisors, the project ultimately aims to improve clinical competence among medical graduates and enhance their readiness for both local and international healthcare markets.

Through initiatives like this workshop, the University of Jordan continues to play a key role in advancing medical education and fostering stronger collaboration between academia and the healthcare sector.
