Prof. Dr. Maamoun Dabi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, launched the project " Capacity Building Educational Program for Preceptors: Supporting medical students’ clinical experiences. " On behalf of the minister. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Movenpick Hotel in Amman. It is an EU-funded project under the Erasmus+ program, with an 800,000-euro grant.
The project's goal is to increase the capacity of clinical trainers (doctors) in medical colleges, universities, and teaching hospitals to develop medical education in Jordan by designing and implementing a professional training program to improve Clinical Trainers' teaching, supervision, and training skills, as well as to provide a distinguished educational and training experience for students in hospitals through clinically and academically qualified medical cadres.
The project will last three years (2023-2026) and will be led by the Hashemite University, with the participation of the Ministry of Health, the faculties of Medicine of the following universities: University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Yarmouk University, Mutah University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Hashemite universities, Minho universities in Portugal, and the University of Patras in Greece.
The president of the Hashemite University, Prof. Fawaz al-zoboun, welcomed the support of the European Union and the Erasmus Plus program, especially in programs aimed at developing higher education in Jordan in cooperation with the best European universities.
He stated that the implementation of this project will lead to a great achievement for universities, in addition to a series of previous achievements in the field of scientific research and international projects aimed at building capacities in the field of Higher Education.
He stated that the project is based on the exchange of experiences between six Jordanian universities and two European universities, and he hopes that its impact will be great because of the great cooperation and the competencies available in it, as well as its reliance on diverse training and qualification with the introduction of modern technologies in the medical field, which is expected to change the shape of the future of Education.
H.E. EU Ambassador to Jordan, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, said: “Building a robust healthcare system and nurturing education are key pillars of the EU’s long-lasting partnership with Jordan. Through this project, we aim to support Jordan to achieve its goal of becoming a thriving hub for medical tourism in the region, while addressing critical healthcare needs. By training medical instructors, we are empowering the healthcare workforce developing the skills of medical students helping to create a sustainable future for Jordan." society.
The opening ceremony was attended by the ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, the president of the Hashemite University, the president of Yarmouk University, the director of the Erasmus office in Jordan, several proxies of participating universities, deans of medical faculties at Jordanian official universities, the project team from the eight participating Jordanian and European universities, representatives of the Ministry of Health and Royal and private medical services.
