About Department

 The Department of Civil Engineering at the Hashemite University (HU), Zarqa, Jordan, was established in 1999.  It conducts basic and applied research relevant to the needs of the Kingdom.  The Department is well equipped with modern laboratories to support its educational and research needs.  In addition to its teaching mission, the Department has a major responsibility to disseminate knowledge by Offering continuing education short courses for the private and public sectors, as well as providing technical and consulting services to the local industry. 

The department of civil engineering is currently ranked the top civil engineering program in Jordan according to The Higher Education Accreditation Commission. Since its initiation in 1999, the department strives to graduate competent civil engineers for challenging carriers both in Jordan and in the region. The department offers a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering and an M.Sc. degree in Non-Destructive Evaluation and Testing Technology. The department has 17 faculty members and a student body of 731 students. Research interests of faculty members include construction engineering and management, structural engineering, water and environmental engineering, traffic and highway engineering, and geotechnical engineering. The department is equipped with 9 laboratories that are utilized for teaching and research purposes.
The objectives of the CE undergraduate program are:

Provide students with the knowledge required to solve civil engineering problems and design civil engineering systems
Educate students to utilize experimental tools and data analysis techniques for civil engineering applications
Enhance the students' written and oral communication skills to present and deliver information effectively
Strengthen the students awareness to professional and ethical issues
Prepare students for life long learning and for successful carriers in the civil engineering profession
