The Women Empowerment Committee at Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II College of Information Technology at the Hashemite University, in cooperation with the Jordanian Open Source Association (JOSA), held an event entitled Digital Safety on Tuesday May 10, 2022. The event included introducing students to digital gender-based violence and the basic technical skills that students should possess in order to confront it, in addition to the optimal behavior in the event of exposure to any of them, and the event addressed electronic bullying that affects men and women at the same time and may affect men more. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Khaled Al-Sarayrah, the Vice Dean, his assistant, and a number of faculty members and students.

Prof. Sahar Idwan, rapporteur of the Women's Empowerment Committee at the college, said that the committee is working according to an ambitious plan to enhance the status of girls in the information technology sector through networking with associations, institutions and companies working in this field. She added that the event of this day comes within the committee's objectives, especially to introduce the importance of digital safety for female students.

In the event, Tamara Al-Masry from the Jordanian Association for Open Egypt spoke about the cyber-bullying that male and female students are exposed to from threats, extortion, data theft, fake accounts and phishing attacks that affect the person mentally, physically and emotionally. She stressed the importance of digital safety for women to enjoy a healthy digital life away from anxiety, insomnia and the problems they face in using digital platforms, and also addressed various digital protection methods.

And she talked about the digital identity or electronic fingerprint, which is created by studying the behavior of a person on the Internet and various digital platforms through artificial intelligence mechanisms. She noted the importance of password management software. She said that digital safety requires a few measures, but we have avoided the big risks.

She spoke about the role of the Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA) in ensuring the right to privacy and protecting personal data within legal and technical frameworks, and raising the security of Internet users by holding awareness and training sessions, issuing guidelines and responding to emergency situations. She stated that the "JOSA" team specialized in digital security provides all the necessary support to those affected, free of charge, in emergency situations, and called for communication with the Cybercrime Unit in the Public Security Directorate when necessary.
