Dean Message

Dear Professor, the President of the Hashemite University

Dear Advisory Board members from Jordan

Dear colleagues

Dear Students

I am delighted to welcome you to celebrate the opening of a new scientific research centre on discourse as a means of expression and authority. This lab is expected to go beyond the field of narratives - as in other laboratories - and that goes beyond what is expressed in language, and includes other practices and expressions bearing in mind that reality is an animated text. The “Founding Committee” has prepared the instructions governing its work. It chose a "consultative body" of leading scholars, intellectuals, academics and those interested in Arab and Islamic culture in various disciplines from Arab and foreign universities. What prompted us to call it a lab is our quest to bring criticism to science as a mental achievement rather than thoughts and passions. The Committee also chose the “Hate Speech and Violence” to be the main concern of studies in the next two years to offer a discourse of pluralism, difference, love and peace as hatred has become a culture and industry. The idea of this laboratory was based on the need for a critical reading to discover the insights, ideas and formats of texts and practices, and to disintegrate some concepts. There were a number of factors that encouraged its establishment, including

The war in our country was born out of written texts that pushed it into the sphere of humanitarian conflict. Hate was obscured by rhetoric and aesthetic language, intensified in the form of proverbs that reflected cultural patterns. This doubled the critic's task of dismantling and constructing. I fear that the “literature of terror and fear” will take root in our culture after we have read and read bold works with titles that glorify, urge and rejoice in hatred. So we have to refine our cultural blog, including quotations and portraits that glorify hatred since the time we have divided poetry into satire and praise, and since we have held our adventures on "the antithesis", and since we put on the words of ecstasy, such as "Do not buy a slave only and stick with him" and such as "Turn a blind eye to you Namir" and "and I am only from Gaza if invaded invasion ..." and many others

The second sin lies in the excessive (interpretation) narratives and historical texts and sayings, opinions, and attitudes. Loaded more than tolerated by coercion necks, we became confined to those interpretations. The war in our homes, from the Psalm and Zair Salem, through the Great Massacre, to the present day, was based on fear, hatred and revenge, hiding behind the aesthetics of language and rhetoric. Hence, we intuit the importance of "rationalization of interpretation" and the need to resort to scientific and ethical controls in different eyes, and the importance of rebuilding concepts, speeches and the sacred. In sum, the clash of interpretations is paralleled by the movement of history, and the clash over the text is equivalent to one on the battlefield

The third sin is felony (reason), when we fought philosophy, and burned the books of philosophers, and the resulting crisis in the Arab mind. When the mind was absent, we destroyed our countries very efficiently, and when the mind was absent, the human was defeated in us. When the mind was absent, we went out of history and the intellectual came out and gave up the responsibility to let the populace make our history and destinations. When the mind was absent, the mind of Averroes disrupted us to be valid in the West. Consequently, disasters of reality as a result of extremist interpretations and readings have lost rationality and objectivity, and our lives have been marked by extremism

In this laboratory, we believe that there is an urgent need for scientific and critical consideration based on theory, methodology, vision, scientific steps and results from the introductions. We need to read the literary, political, religious, media and historical discourse. In the lab, we are also trying to establish a way of looking at and dealing with the other, which no longer sees us only from the energy of conflict and from a black hole. We have to live love, intimacy and peace, and to offer the human values in our culture that promote pluralism, difference and justice

Our hope in this lab is to be a house of advice to the parties concerned with decision making on scientific grounds. We also hope that it will be an umbrella for cultural, religious and political pluralism, and a catalyst for our critical approaches in the search for the cultural commonality and the human umbrella that brings together the different entities. We hope that the lab seeks identities that unite, disintegrate, and seek to uncover the human face hidden in our culture rather than the face of conflict and the demonization of the other. Based on all of the above, I call for the extension of the concept of “cultural criticism” to include the commonality of humanity, so that “individuality” is equal to “humanity” in its concerns

I reiterate my thanks to the University, represented by its President, for his presence and unwavering support, which enabled us to bring this idea into existence. I also thank my colleagues in the Founding Committee: Prof. Majed Al-Quran, Professor of Linguistics in the Department of English Language and Literature, Prof. Jamal Al-Shalabi, Professor of Political Science, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Khuloud Al-Omoush, Professor of Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, Department of Arabic Language and Literature, on their efforts, their spirit and teamwork. I would also like to thank the Advisory Committee, who kindly accept the invitation to join us, from the Jordanian, Arab and foreign universities. I am sure that they will be great asset, house of expertise, mentors and a contributors to the construction of the laboratory. I thank all those who have made an effort, including faculty, students, administrators and committees

I hope that it will not be long before we celebrate the announcement of another centre that we are preparing in the meantime, the Center for the Study of Terrorism and Extremism. I also hope that the Center for Future Studies will be established in the Faculty of Strategic Studies
