Economic botany explores the importance and nature of plant products in our lives. The course also covers the use of plants as a source of food (cereals, legumes, nuts, vegetables, fruits, spices and other flavoring materials) and as source of beverages and textiles. Moreover, the course focuses on plant products of industrial value (fibers, wood, cork, rubber, tannin gums, resins and vegetable oils). Finally, it gives a brief idea about the use of plants as medicines and the use of plants in ornamental gardening. |
