This course provides a comprehensive exploration of manufacturing processes and technologies within the field of mechanical engineering. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of various manufacturing methods, materials, and technologies used in the creation of mechanical components and products. The course encompasses traditional and advanced manufacturing techniques, emphasizing theoretical principles, practical applications, and industry relevance. Major Topics Covered include; Introduction to Manufacturing Processes, Materials and Material Processing, Forming Processes such as Casting, forging, extrusion, sheet metal forming, Machining Processes such as Turning, milling, drilling, grinding, and CNC machining, Joining Processes such as Welding, brazing, soldering, Adhesive bonding, and Fastening methods, Polymer and polymer composites processing, and Additive Manufacturing Technologies and 3d printing such as fused deposition modeling (FDM) Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP) and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).
