Introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT), its definition, and applications; application domains, case scenarios, and proposed use cases; functional blocks of IoT systems including devices, communications, services, management, security, and applications; reference architecture and design methodology. IoT devices including sensors, actuators, and embedded systems; communication aspects of IoT systems such as Internet infrastructure, wireless local area networks (WLANs), radio access networks, wireless personal area networks (WPANs), wireless sensor networks, vehicle-area wireless communications, and 5G. Current IoT frameworks and infrastructures; data storage and analytics; web services; IoT system management tools; security aspects of IoT systems; performance evaluation and information flow and network modeling, including load distribution. Open challenges in IoT. Practical application of the theory may be conducted in the IoT laboratory. |
