This course provides the students with the knowledge necessary to identify the morphological characteristics and taxonomic units of soil; techniques of writing soil pedon and mapping unit descriptions; and techniques of preparing soil maps. This course will briefly discuss the soil forming factors and how they affect land use. The students will be introduced to the concept of soil evaluation for land use planning, and to the effects of physical resources of land; such as soil, climate and topography, on land evaluation. Students will also take a glimpse of the use of soil, survey data, water resources and land cover information systems used in land evaluation. The course ends with extended discussions of the effects of socio-economic factors on land evaluation derived from physical factor on building a final land use plan. |
