     The Royal Decree has been issued for approving the recommendation of the Higher Education Council to appoint Professor Dr. Khaled Hesham Hyari as President of the Hashemite University for a period of four years, starting from Sunday 4/21/2024, making him the eleventh president to assume leadership of the Hashemite University since the issuance of the Royal Decree for establishing the university in 1991.

 

   Prof. Dr. Hyari holds a doctorate degree in project engineering and management from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the United States of America in 2004, a master’s degree in civil engineering, road and traffic engineering, from the University of Jordan in 1992, and also a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the university of Jordan in 1990.

 

     Prof. Dr. Hyari is the first president of the Hashemite University from the university family, he joined as a postgraduate sponsored student to study for doctorate in 2001 and then a faculty member in 2004. He held several academic and administrative positions, most notably as Vice President of the University for Scientific Faculties Affairs during the period 2020-2023, and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies from 2018. -2020, and a professor of civil engineering and project management in the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering from 2005 to the present date.

     He also served as Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Project Engineering and Management in the United Arab Emirates during the period 2012-2014, and he also served as a visiting lecturer and research and teaching assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2001-2004.

     During his career at Hashemite University, he chaired many academic councils and committees at the university level, the colleges of engineering and graduate studies, and the civil engineering department. He also chaired the founding council of the College of Dentistry, the newest college of the Hashemite University.

     The university president has made notable research achievements in the areas of managing infrastructure projects and public sector projects, reducing practices that affect competition and integrity, analyzing and estimating the cost of infrastructure projects, economic feasibility studies, managing financial claims and contractual violations in engineering projects, and decisions making in engineering projects.

    He has published more than 50 scientific papers, including about 40 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and 13 papers published in international scientific conferences specialized in project engineering and management. He has 19 papers published in prestigious scientific journals issued by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

    Prof. Dr. Hyari has extensive educational experience in teaching more than (20) university courses in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in Jordanian, American, and Emirati universities. He also has an extensive experience in supervising and defending master’s and doctoral dissertations in the field of civil engineering/engineering project management in Jordanian and Arab universities. He is a certified reviewer to review scientific research submitted for publication in prestigious international scientific journals, and a keynote speaker in a group of specialized scientific engineering conferences.

    Prof. Dr. Hyari has practical experience in civil engineering. He worked as a road and traffic engineer and head of a department in the Ministry of Public Works and Housing from 1994 to 2001, and before as a researcher at the Building Research Center at the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan in 1993.

    It is worth noting that the Hashemite University holds advanced international classifications and high local, Arab and international accreditations. It began its educational journey 29 years ago, and currently includes (15) colleges in addition to the College of Graduate Studies and (3) deanships, and offers (55) bachelor’s degrees specialization, and (42) specializations at the postgraduate level: doctorate, master’s, higher diploma, and higher specialization in medicine, and it has (13) scientific, advisory, and service centers.

   The number of its faculty members is (854), and the number of its students is about (30) thousand students, the percentage of its female students is about (62%), and the number of its graduates exceeded (100) thousand graduates.
