The Hashemite University registered a new patent in the US Patent and Trademark Office in the name of the university for a new composition (polymer gel) to measure radiation therapy for cancer patients. The new composition (manufacturing) contained five new compositions similar to the human body so that they can be used to verify the values of the radiation doses to be given to treat cancer patients.

Professor Khaled Al-Hyari, President of the Hashemite University, expressed the university's pride and appreciation for this high-level scientific and qualitative research achievement by registering a patent in the name of the university, stressing that this applied achievement is recorded for Jordan, the dearest and most precious homeland, and for all Jordanian higher education institutions, and for the Hashemite University and its family of academics, administrators, students, and its accomplished research teams.

He added that registering the patent also reflects the capabilities and competencies of the university's faculty members and researchers who constitute a creative knowledge elite capable of providing qualitative additions in various fields of knowledge, especially in innovating practical products on the ground that serve the national, Arab and international medical sector. Prof. Hyari extended his sincere congratulations to the scientific research team that contributed to raising the name of the country high by achieving this scientific success that is a source of pride in international forums.

The Hashemite University team that obtained the patent consisted of Professor Dr. Khaled Rababah from the Department of Medical Imaging at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Firas Al-Duwairi from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, and graduates of the Master of Physics/in the field of medical physics: Nisreen Adwan, Manar Sawan, and Alaa Abu Sailik

The research team highly appreciated the efforts of the Hashemite University administration represented by its President, Professor Dr. Khaled Hyari, the Vice Presidents of the University, the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences for the support they received during the period of preparing their research that resulted in this achievement.

Dr. Khaled Rababa'a, the team coordinator, stated that the Hashemite University provided advanced research facilities, most notably the advanced laboratory for radiotherapy in the Department of Medical Imaging, and equipped it with very advanced scientific and research equipment. It also provided generous financial and moral support sufficient to conduct the research that led to the registration of the patent, and paid all costs of filing the patent application until it was granted on 11/12/2024. Dr. Rababa'a explained that what is new in our work is the composition (manufacture) of a new material that can be used in treating cancer patients in hospitals, and the other thing is that we have reached more control and quality of the rays in three dimensions inside the affected body, and he added that the new radiation scale enables us to know the values ??of the rays with the utmost accuracy using three-dimensional imaging. He added that the new composition of the manufactured material, the polymer gel, will work to develop the radiation treatment plan for cancer patients due to the development of technologies, the most important of which is radiation therapy. Dr. Firas Al-Duwairi stated that this step is the first step of major steps to come, bigger and more important in the future, as there are great opportunities in therapeutic radiation that have not been exploited to a great extent yet and can be benefited from and invested in a very large way. Prof. Al-Duwairi added: We have the opportunity for more patents that can be applied in the agricultural field that are used to extend the life of agricultural and animal products during the export process and protect them from spoilage in short periods, so we need a company that markets the patents and contributes to raising the export quality of Jordanian products.
