The Hashemite University has secured five competitive projects funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program, attracting more than €2.5 million to support initiatives in green chemistry, sustainable water management, digital mental health, public health and climate change, and zoonotic disease prevention.

   According to a university statement issued Monday, University President Khaled Hayari said the achievement reflects the university's growing international competitiveness and its success in attracting external funding while leading projects with sustainable development impact.

   He said the projects will support the development of academic programs, strengthen scientific research and innovation, modernize educational infrastructure, enhance learning and research environments, build the capacities of students, faculty members and local communities, and expand partnerships with international universities and institutions.

 

The university underlined its commitment to supporting the implementation of the projects by providing the necessary resources, strengthening institutional capacities and removing any obstacles. It also pledged to adopt successful initiatives that improve the quality of education and expand students' training, educational and employment opportunities.

   Among the projects, the university will lead the Jordanian consortium for the Green Training and Education in Chemistry (G-TEC) initiative, which received €631,000 in funding. The project aims to develop expertise in green chemistry, modernize environmentally focused curricula and promote sustainability and innovation. Partners include Isra University, Al Hussein Technical University, Al Nashita Analysis and Filtration Company, the University of Helsinki in Finland, KU Leuven in Belgium and Ca' Foscari University of Venice in Italy.

    The university also secured €777,000 for the EDU-TRAUMA DIGI project, which seeks to establish an integrated digital framework for mental health support and community resilience in universities through artificial intelligence. The initiative includes establishing a student support center and developing digital platforms and training programs in partnership with institutions from the European Union, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt.

    Another successful project, RESAQUIS, received €400,000 to promote sustainable water management in higher education by establishing a hybrid water education laboratory and strengthening green and digital skills. The project brings together the Hashemite University, the University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Yarmouk University, the Todor Kableshkov University of Transport in Bulgaria, Democritus University of Thrace, the Institute for Social Innovation and Cohesion, and ANAX Energy in Greece.

   The university also secured €400,000 for the CREPH-MED project, led by the University of Patras in Greece, to develop innovative academic programs in public health and climate change and strengthen the capacities of higher education institutions across the Southern Mediterranean. Partners include the German Jordanian University, Jaume I University in Spain, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, 6th of October University in Egypt and the EMVIO Foundation of Greece.

   In addition, the university won €314,000 for the PARASITOONS project under the European Union's Interreg NEXT MED program. The initiative brings together universities from Italy, Egypt, Greece, Tunisia and Jordan to develop innovative tools for preventing zoonotic parasitic diseases, particularly among children and other vulnerable groups, in response to increasing climate-related health risks across the Mediterranean.
