The Hashemite University

The Hashemite University is proud  and honored to carry a name that holds a deep connotation, in that it is linked to the Hashemite Family of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This name means the originality that is deeply rooted in the glorious history of the Arab Islamic nation, and confirms the aspiration towards a brighter future.

Creation and Establishment:

A royal decree was issued to found the university on the Nineteenth of June 1991, and teaching began on the Sixteenth of September 1995.

A leading university both regionally and globally.

Message:

Promoting the level of scientific research, postgraduate studies, developing curricula, creating a university environment that motivates excellence, creativity and the spirit of leadership, and preparing qualified human energies that are capable of contributing actively to the scientific, practical and developmental process and sustaining it with community service as to keep pace with modern standards and advancements.

Faculties and Deanships

The university includes 18 faculties and deanships, it offers 54 undergraduate programs and 33 graduate programs including PhD, MA, and higher diploma in addition to the vocational diploma as the following:

  1. The Faculty of Science: physics, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, and mathematics.
  2. The Faculty of Arts: Arabic language and literature, English language literature, international relations and strategic studies, and literature and cultural studies in English.
  3. Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences: accounting, accounting and commercial law, business administration, management information systems, hotel management, economics, financial economics, banking and financial sciences, risk management and insurance, and digital marketing.
  4. Faculty of educational sciences: psychological counseling, classroom teacher, and classroom/art teacher.
  5. Faculty of Engineering: computer engineering, mechatronics engineering, medical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, architecture, civil engineering, and electrical engineering.
  6. Faculty of Nursing: nursing

• The total number of students is (28000), and the percentage of female students is (61%) of the total number of students.

International Students:

The university includes about (1400) students from about (25) Arab and foreign nationalities. It provides them with care, especially through the International Students Unit, as it provides a model university housing for female students.

University Alumni:

- The number of university graduates has reached (95,000).

Faculty Members:

The number of faculty members is about (822) who are graduates of the most prestigious international and Arab universities. The percentage of females is (29%).

Administrative Board:

The number of members of the administrative body is (872) employees. The percentage of females is 37%.

Scientific and Research Publications:

In cooperation with the Scientific Research Support Fund, the university publishes three peer-reviewed scientific journals: Jordan Journal of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Jordan Journal of Biological Sciences, and Jordan Journal of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The university also publishes scientific, cultural and media publications.

  • The university has achieved advanced positions in various international classifications:
  •  (1001+) at the level of international universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021.
  •  (401) globally among universities of the countries of emerging economies in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022.
  •  (3) at the level of Jordan, and in the ranking (400) of the best international universities that appeared in the Young Universities 2021 classification in the Times Higher Education classification.

  • Second place at the level of Jordan in (specialties of medicine, pharmacy, applied medical sciences and nursing) according to the Times classification THE.

  • The College of Economics and Science is applying for accreditation by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).
  • International accreditation ABET for the Department of Computer Information Systems in the College of Information Technology.
  • The Occupational Therapy Department obtained the American accreditation from the International Federation of Occupational Therapists.
  • The University's Labor Market Preparation Center received a British accreditation grant from the United Kingdom Central Application Network- UKAN, a British institution concerned with the sector of scientific qualification and vocational and career guidance for students.
  •  Inclusion of the Hashemite University in the Jordanian National Qualifications Framework.
  • Medal of Independence, First Class, for the year 2016
  • Emirates Energy Gold Award for the year 2017
  • Prince Hassan Award for Scientific Excellence twice in 2015 and 2017 for the Clinical Skills Center and the University Nursery.

  • International accreditation of the College of Medicine and its inclusion in the Avicenna Directory for the year 2012
  • International accreditation for the Department of Architecture is being conducted by the (NAAB)National Architectural Accrediting Board

  • The Occupational Therapy Department obtained the American accreditation.

The university is accredited in all Arab countries.

 

The achievements of the Hashemite University during the year 2020-2022

• On the anniversary of the Jordanian state's centennial, the university hosted an international conference titled "Jordan's Image in the World in 100 Years" from November 2-4, 2021, with active participation of (60) national, Arab and international thinkers, scholars, academics, researchers, politicians and media professionals from twenty-two Arab and foreign countries, sixty scientific papers were presented.

• Exhibition "The Development of Libraries in the Era of the Hashemites 1921-2021"

• Opening a simulation lab for the Amman Stock Exchange and the opening of student activities and discussions halls at the Faculty of Economics.

• Transforming Zarqa Governmental Hospital into a teaching hospital for the university.

-The Hashemite University prepares a strategic plan with its slogan "From the Hashemite to the Global"

• The focus on the action plan to achieve global ranking goals.

• The focus on the development of faculty members and scientific research.

• The focus on activating international projects, academic exchange and networking with prestigious international universities. The plan is related to the global ranking axis which  includes the main standards in the international classifications and the technical studies related to them.

• Restructuring the administrative units and establishing a university civic unit.

• Implementation of an administrative development plan, which starts with the development of managerial work in administrative units, organizational structures, tasks, and hiring rules for occupying regular and advanced managerial positions.

• Creating a smart campus: a wireless internet network, Wi-Fi and smart classrooms at the Hashemite University.

• The success of the Hashemite University’s experience in e-learning during the period of the Corona pandemic and the suspension of studies on campus. Courses were taught online.

• Distribution of smart university cards "smart university identity" as a  joint project with Cairo Amman Bank.

• Hashemite University receives European funding for the  Family Medicine diploma project (783,000 Euros).

• Introducing a master's program in Nutritional Therapy and Food Safety.

• Introducing Marketing Department in the College of Economics and Administrative Science to award a Bachelor’s degree in digital marketing.

- Creating two majors in cyber security, data science and artificial intelligence.

 

- Introducing new master's programs in (curricula and teaching), (counseling) and (childhood special education).

 

- Launching the concept of management with love and implementing it to achieve sustainable collective achievement.  And holding a series of meetings with university staff and students to solve any challenges they face.

 The Hashemite University's Policy aims at supporting students with disabilities

 - The university rehabilitated its buildings and facilities to facilitate access and movement for them, and is always keen to integrate them into the university environment through various programs and plans.  Sign language has been included in the university's list of requirements as an optional course. Those who pass it can work as a sign language interpreter with a financial reward.

 

 • The International Students Unit:

 

 - The unit provides the international female students with a model housing including all services,  such as transportation, Internet, security, a relaxing study atmosphere, shopping trips, and others.
